With food prices rising at an alarming rate these days and many of the cheaper foods in supermarkets containing chemicals and preservatives that can be damaging to our health; it can be refreshing to think that chia seeds although grown on a large scale now due to their popularity, are not given any chemicals to help protect them from insects as they are hardy enough and not particularly palatable to damage in this way.
Chia seeds come from the salvia hispanica plant which has its origins in Mexico but is grown in many countries now due to their commercial value. Chia seeds have an amazing protein content that supersedes all other grains and seeds so it is not surprising to see that chia seeds are now becoming incredibly popular across the globe.
