If you are someone who is constantly on the go, running from work meeting to work meeting, dashing home to pick up the children, grabbing a quick meal before dashing out for a social event that you really cannot get out of, you may feel that you are relatively healthy to be able to keep going the way that you do. But what happens when you stop running around and manage to get yourself some time out from your busy schedule?

You work hard to save up some money to go on the holiday of your dreams and then quite often you fall ill either before you go or whilst you are on holiday. There is nothing more miserable than having little energy when you have time on your hands.

The last thing that you want to do is to have to worry about your health whilst you are away and there are some very simple things that you can do to keep your health in check and actually to promote your overall health before, during and after your holiday.

It is likely that you may indulge in a few alcohol drinks whilst on holiday but be aware that this can impair your immune system. The best way to ensure that you are in optimal condition is to drink water. Water is vital to ensure that you are not dehydrated but water also rejuvenates the cells within your body and affords you greater focus and concentration. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and don’t wait until you feel thirsty.

If you are going out for the day whilst on holiday, you need to ensure that you have some healthy snacks to hand. You can buy some fresh fruits first thing n the morning and take these along with you. Fruits are nutritious with natural sugars so are perfect to keep your sugar level balanced. You can also have snacks such as nuts or raisins and take some chia seeds with you so that you can add them to smoothies or fresh fruit juices and these will raise your energy levels.

It can be tempting to eat plenty of junk food whilst on holiday. Most of us see that as a holiday treat and it’s so much easier than cooking when the last thing that you want to do is to cook. But try not to over-indulge in these fast foods because they are not good for you and will only help you to pile on the weight. If you eat a little more junk foods than you should, go for plenty of long walks and explore your location, this will help to speed up your metabolism and you can get to see much more of your holiday place as a result.

Again it’s tempting to drink soft drinks or more alcohol when you are away but try to supplement some of the not so healthy drinks with some herbal teas, there are so many different varieties and they can really perk you up and re-energise you.

If you are travelling to a hot climate don’t make the mistake of sitting out for too long in the sun without protecting your skin. By drinking extra water your skin will look better but if you get sun burned, you will have a miserable holiday and a painful one too.

If you are holidaying with family and friends, you may find that it is not relaxing as you would like it to be. Grab yourself a quiet twenty minutes or so and do some gentle yoga stretching and some relaxation techniques. If your holiday is a little stressful practice some meditation techniques too.

Make the most of your holiday by looking after your health and you will be able to have a great holiday.
